FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Starting therapy brings up questions. Here are answers to the ones we hear most often.
Getting started
How do I schedule an appointment?
Call 636-500-9247. If it is your first time calling and you are unsure which therapist to work with, choose option 1 and leave a voicemail for our client coordinators. You can also request an appointment online. Calls are returned within 24 hours, Monday through Friday.
Can I book directly with a specific therapist?
Yes. We welcome you to book your session directly with a clinician. Dial 636-379-1779, press 4, then the therapist's extension, which is listed on each therapist profile.
What happens during the first appointment?
After scheduling your first appointment, you will receive an email with paperwork to complete online, along with information about signing up for our patient portal. If you are unable to complete the paperwork electronically, please arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment to complete it in person. When you arrive, have a seat and make yourself comfortable in the waiting area; your therapist will greet you at the time of your scheduled appointment.
Who can benefit from counseling?
Sandhill offers virtual and in-person appointments for individuals, couples, and families with mild to moderate symptoms looking for personal growth. Our setting provides an appropriate level of care for those who are not in crisis or not at risk for harm.
What should I do if I am in crisis?
Sandhill is an outpatient practice and is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Locations and virtual sessions
Where are you located?
We have two offices: 801 South Woodlawn Avenue, Suite 15, O'Fallon, MO 63366, and 13303 Tesson Ferry Road, Suite 50, St. Louis, MO 63128. Both offices are handicapped accessible. See directions and parking.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. Virtual sessions use Zoom, which is HIPAA compliant and secure (encrypted). You will receive a Zoom link 1 hour prior to your scheduled telehealth appointment. If you feel unwell on the day of an in-person visit, we can convert it to a virtual appointment. Learn about virtual counseling.
Insurance and payment
What insurance do you accept?
Some therapists at Sandhill are in-network with Aetna, Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare, United Healthcare and Tricare. Not all therapists are contracted with all plans, so let our staff know which carrier you have when you schedule. A listed carrier does not guarantee coverage; please verify your specific plan's benefits. Insurance and payment details.
Can I pay privately or use an HSA?
Yes. Private pay, out-of-network reimbursement (you submit receipts to your insurer) and Health Savings or Flex Spending Accounts are options. Payments are made at the time of service.
Appointments and weather
Will my appointment still be held if school is closed?
Sandhill Counseling may still hold sessions if school is closed. Because many of our appointments are held in the afternoons/evenings, and school closings are generally made much earlier in the day, road conditions may be fine by the afternoon. If your therapist needs to transition to a telehealth appointment or reschedule, they will be in contact. If you do not hear from us, assume your appointment is being held as scheduled.
What if I don't feel safe driving on the roads?
We want you to do what makes you feel safe and comfortable. If you don't feel safe driving on the roads, please contact your therapist as soon as possible and decide to move your appointment to a telehealth appointment or reschedule for an in-person session.
Will I be charged a cancellation fee for bad weather?
If you and your therapist agree that holding a telehealth session is not an effective modality for you, or you do not have telehealth coverage, you can work with your therapist to reschedule your appointment. Cancellation fees due to inclement weather will be waived.
Who should I contact about weather changes to my session?
Your therapist will be the best point of contact to determine if sessions will be changed in any way. Please reach out to them directly, or contact the front office at 636-379-1779.
